10. Hurricane Hunters war on weather
KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- At 1:15 a.m. June 15, Lt. Col. Jeff Ragusa shuts off his alarm, rolls out of bed and gets ready quietly and leaves for work. The pilot and aircraft commander meets his crew at 2:15 a.m. to prepare for a 4:30 a.m. departure to fly a low-level investigation mission at 500 feet above the Gulf of Mexico into a tropical disturbance known as 91L, which eventually becomes Tropical Storm Bill.
9. Reservists go active duty
ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- At the beginning of fiscal year 2016 the Air Force Personnel Center launched the Voluntary Limited Period of Active Duty program. The program is offering some great opportunities for Air Force Reservists interested in returning to active duty.
8. Reserve A-10s first fighter to land in Latvia
LIELVARDE AIR BASE, Latvia -- Two A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots with the 442nd Fighter Wing, Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., landed at Lielvarde Air Base in Latvia, marking the first time U.S. fighter aircraft landed in this Eastern European country. In the past, C-130 Hercules have landed there, and F-16 Falcons have done touch and goes, but this was the first fighter landing.

5. President's Budget Request restores manpower to the Air Force Reserve
ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- The Department of Defense budget request for fiscal year 2016 includes a number of proposed changes for the Air Force Reserve. If enacted into law, the DOD budget request would restore 2,100 manpower positions to the Air Force Reserve and increase the Air Force Reserve’s presence in a number of mission areas.

2. Reservists selected to lead active-duty units
ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Three Air Force Reserve officers have been selected to lead active-duty units under the voluntary Extended Active Duty tour program. EAD tours assign Reservists to active duty units to help meet active force requirements. The assignments are part of a larger initiative to leverage Total Force capabilities that includes assigning active-duty officers to lead Air Force Reserve units.
