Team Dobbins,

The President signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, establishing June 19th as a federal holiday. As the 19th falls on a Saturday, the holiday will be observed Friday, June 18th.

If you have any questions, please contact your supervisor.

From Air Force Reserve Command:

Heroes of the Air Force Reserve: On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger of the Union Army arrived on the island of Galveston in Texas to take command of over 2,000 federal troops on the island. On that day, he and his troops marched through the streets reading General Order Number 3, proclaiming the emancipation of enslaved people.

Since that time, Juneteenth, also known as Jubilee Day or Emancipation Day, has served as a day to celebrate these events across the country. This week, the federal government recognized Juneteenth National Independence Day as a federal holiday.

We encourage you to pause and reflect on the significance of this day.  As an Air Force Reserve, we celebrate every milestone in our nation's history that has helped us to become a more perfect union.
