This week’s Up Close features A1C Ashley Henderson, 94th AMXS crew chief. Up Close is a series spotlighting individuals around Dobbins Air Reserve Base.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

Atlanta, Ga.

WHY DID YOU JOIN?

I felt like it was a good start to do something different. It was a fresh start, career wise. I’ve never done anything with mechanics before, but I always wanted to go to school for it. I wanted to become a crew chief because I feel like if you want to feel accomplished, you’ll go home at the end of the day feeling accomplished.

WHAT DO YOU DO ON THE CIVILIAN SIDE?

I work security at the airport. I don’t like doing the same thing every day, so I like that my civilian job is in a different field than my military job.

FAVORITE AIR FORCE EXPERIENCE?

The temporary duties. My favorite was my first one to Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES?

I don’t have a lot of time right now for hobbies, but I like to play basketball when I can.

PERSONAL/PROFESSIONAL GOALS?

I’d like to go back to school to get my bachelor’s degree in cyber security. I feel like that’s the next up-and-coming career that will be in demand, and I’ve always wanted to work on computers as well.

BEST ADVICE EVER RECEIVED?

Don’t be afraid to do anything, just go for it. I think I received that advice from a master sergeant here.

SOMETHING NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT YOU?

I used to play violin.
