The Marietta Veterans Center is scheduled to hold a grand opening ceremony Nov. 14 at 11:30 a.m.

The center is in an excellent location (40 Dodd Street, Suite 700, Marietta GA 30060) approximately 25 minutes northwest of the Atlanta VA Medical Center. It is also near a well known and easily identifiable landmark affectionately called by most Georgians, "The Big Chicken".

The Marietta Vet Center is the largest in the Atlanta Metro Area and has numerous offices for counseling and family therapy. It also has a relaxation/biofeedback room, two large group rooms and a Gazebo area on the premise. In addition, at the grand opening ceremony there will be one of 50 Mobile Vet Centers (MVC) purchased by RCS to enhance outreach, visibility and readjustment support services for combat veterans and their families in outlying communities.

The grand opening event will consist of a formal one-hour ceremony starting at 11:30 am followed by a tour of the facility and the Mobile Vet Center. FORSCOM's Army Ground Forces Band will provide the music. Food and refreshments will be catered by the Atlanta VA Medical Center Canteen.

In addition, presidential appointee, the Honorable L. Tammy Duckworth, Assistant Secretary of Public and Intergovernmental Affairs for the Department of Veteran Affairs will provide the keynote address. Tammy Duckworth, former Black Hawk helicopter pilot, flew combat missions in Iraq and was awarded the Purple Heart, Air Medal and Combat Action Badge.
