Military families invited to Rock Eagle Published Jan. 27, 2010 Services DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- Last year, 300 military family members attended the inaugural 4-H Military Family Day at Rock Eagle. We heard your suggestions and this year, we are making it an overnight stay! Drop in for the day or choose to spend the night. Enjoy activities for the entire family. Please feel free to forward this message directly to military family members, FRG leaders, key spouses, First Sergeants, and other interested parties who can encourage attendance. We especially invite military installation CYS, CYP, CYT and FMP programs to sponsor a group trip to Rock Eagle for the day or to spend the night. What Did Families Say About Last Year's Event? "Best Family Day of My 8 Years of Service!" - Service Member A Teenager said, "This is the best day ever!" One military spouse said, "I hate we have to go before the show. It's going to be amazing. Everything else has been." Schedule of Events Saturday, participate in any or all of the following outdoor learning experiences including the following classes which will be scheduled throughout the day: * Adventure Based Team Building * Native Reptiles and Amphibians * Rock Eagle Lake Ecology * Rock Eagle Effigy Mound Hike * Other ongoing throughout the day include: * Natural History Museum * Bounce House * 4-H Exhibits and Demonstrations Saturday Evening Clovers and Company, the Georgia 4-H performing arts group, will provide relaxing afternoon activity before dinner. Youth ranging in age from 10-18 from across the state will "Turn up the Music" in their award winning performance. Past members of Clovers and Company include Hillary Lindsey, songwriter for Carrie Underwood, and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland. Following Clovers & Company, enjoy a picnic dinner and night activities such as dance, campfire, movie and more! Sunday Morning Participate in a Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony, followed by a Family Fun Run and 5K Road Race. Directions Rock Eagle 4-H Center is located on US 441, twelve miles south of I-20 in Madison, Georgia at Exit 114. Lodging Lodging will be in Rock Eagle 4-H Center Cabins by family group. Deadlines Register by 12 March 2010 to guarantee your family a spot. Lodging may be limited if interest exceeds capacity. Please note that families residing in Georgia and/or serving a unit based in Georgia will receive first priority in attending the Georgia 4-H Military Family Weekend.
