94th CS welcomes new commander Published Nov. 13, 2015 By Senior Airman Andrew Park 94th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- Maj. Andrea Walthour assumed command of the 94th Communications Squadron Nov. 7 in the 22nd Air Force Media Center. “We’re going to get the job done,” said Walthour about her leadership style. “We’re going to ‘meet the mail.’ And what that means is having what we need in the right place at the right time to meet that tasker, to meet that mission, or whatever requirement we have. And if we’re not meeting it, we’re going to beat it." Col. Marshall Irvin, Jr., 94th Mission Support Group commander, spoke at the ceremony and provided some words of wisdom about the requirements of being a commander. “The most important part of command is the responsibility of it,” said Irvin. “To whom much is given, much is required. What we’re giving Maj. Walthour is a squadron full of people who in my humble opinion…make our Department of Defense and entire military very capable. When we go to fight, we need to have the best communication, and we need to be able to deliver a lethality to our enemy that they cannot withstand.” “We have a tremendous communication array of which now [Walthour] is leading the airmen that are going to be responsible to make sure that communication array functions properly,” said Irvin. “That’s a big deal to say she’s got a lot of responsibility. To whom much is given, much is required. And to whom much is committed, all the more will be asked of that person.” Walthour closed out the ceremony with her own thoughts on what it takes to be a commander. “You’ve got my heart,” Walthour addressed the audience. “Because you can’t do it without putting your heart in it.”
