Fire Prevention Week kicks off Published Oct. 5, 2015 94th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- The Dobbins Air Reserve Base fire department will host Fire Prevention Week Oct. 4 through 10 here in conjunction with the National Fire Prevention Association to promote this year’s theme "Hear the Beep where you Sleep - every bedroom needs a working smoke alarm."“I urge all members of the Dobbins community to test their smoke alarms at least every month by pushing the test button, and to support the many public safety activities and efforts of Dobbins Fire Emergency Services during Fire Prevention Week 2015,” said Col. Brent Merritt, 94th Airlift Wing commander.The week was spurred on Oct. 2 when Merritt signed the week’s proclamation.“Dobbins first responders are dedicated to reducing the occurrence of work place fires and injuries through prevention and protection education,” Merritt stated. The fire department will host various activities throughout the week and perform fire drills across the base.The week’s activities include:- Fire prevention/ life safety literature at the entry gates beginning at 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 5, during the morning commute into the installations.- Oct. 6 - Demonstrations on how to extinguish grease fires at the Base Exchange from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. - Oct. 7 - Conducting hands-on fire extinguisher training at the Base Exchange from 1:30-3:30 p.m. daily - Oct. 8 - Distribution of fire prevention/safety literature and utilizing "Pluggie" the robotic fire hydrant at the base exchange from 1:30-3:30 p.m. daily
