Senior leaders of the 94th Airlift Wing welcomed a new leader to the unit during an Assumption of Command ceremony held Aug 3 here.

Lt. Col. James R. DeVere, now the 94th Operations Group commander, hails from Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., where he was the 302nd Operations Group deputy commander.

"I am looking forward to working with all the groups and squadrons," said DeVere. "Forming strong relationships and working together as one wing is the best chance for mission success. Therefore, my pledge is to build relationships and work towards that success."

DeVere assumed responsibility for more than 260 military and civilian personnel that operate within the 700th Airlift Squadron, 94th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, 94th Operations Support Squadron and the Eastern Regional C-130 Flight Simulator.

The 94th Operations Group forms the tip of the spear as the sole flying entity of the 94th AW. DeVere will report directly to Col. Tim Tarchick, 94th AW commander.

"Being a commander is an awesome privilege with overwhelming responsibility," said Tarchick. "It is hard work, challenging, lonely, energy draining, but fun! [Colonel DeVere] has the ability, based on his leadership and character to impact so many and so much. The decisions he will make each and every day will impact the mission and people's lives for years to come."
