Family Day is Aug. 4.

Its a time for us to invite those closest to enjoy time in a place that often competes with them for our time.

Family is truly a glorious thing. I know that we can have dysfunctions and bad examples, but we all in our hearts, know of the importance and strength of family.

This can be recognized because of our reaction when family does not behave correctly toward each other.

We know that family should behave a certain way. In the ideal, we strive for our family to support us when we dream, rejoice in our strengths and help us in our weakness.

The Air Force Reserve has often been described as a family. In many ways, we can easily recognize that analogy. We can see many of the same attributes, both positive and negative. Think of the people that you work with. In many ways, you know them so well that you can tell when things are wrong, or going well without them saying anything. The time spent around each other, and being part of something together creates a bond. In many ways we truly are a family.

As a family I hope we strive for the ideal of that word. I hope we look for ways to lift each other up in the down times. I hope we recognize when each other are having trouble or difficulty, and step in and offer a friendly hand. I hope we celebrate with each other when we are successful, and protect each other from harm.

Family is truly an essential part of life. May you have fun this Family Day.
