Wing welcomes new ASTS commander Published Sept. 10, 2013 By Senior Airman Christina Norris 94th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- Col. Tim Tarchick, 94th Airlift Wing commander, welcomed Col. Sherry F. Hemby, former 934th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron commander, Minneapolis-St.Paul International Airport Air Reserve Station, Minn. to the 94th Aeromedical Staging Squadron Sept. 8. Hemby replaces Col. L. Josephine Almonte as the 94th ASTS commander. She will be responsible for leading a diverse team of nurses, medical technicians, medical service corps officers, health service administration, and medical supply specialists. Tarchick addressed both Almonte and Hemby when discussing what it means to serve and command. "When you serve, its means that you're always on," said Tarchick. "It's like being a neurosurgeon; you're always on call." Before the formal change of command took place, Tarchick awarded the Meritorious Service Medal Award to Almonte. Dispensing her previously written notecards, Almonte decided to speak briefly and from the heart. As a New York Yankees fan, she quoted Yogi Berra. "When you're part of a team, you're loyal to your teammates because they would do the same for you," Almonte said. "I'm loyal to you, and I always will be." Hemby's family and friends attended the ceremony and looked on as she assumed command and spoke to her newly attained squadron and fellow Airmen. "I am very excited to be the ASTS commander at Dobbins," Hemby said. "This squadron has very hard working members." Some of the 94th ASTS's goals include streamlining processes and enhancing training for war time missions, preparing a training plan with the 94th AES and the 700th Airlift Squadron, exceling in team building, surpassing inspection standards and becoming the best squadron on Dobbins Air Reserve Base. "Never forget who you are and what you stand for" said Hemby. "Members of the 94th ASTS, lets get to work!"
