Legal Assistance: online and in person Published June 25, 2014 By Senior Master Sgt. Donna Bridges 94th Airlift Wing Judge Advocate General Office DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you need immediate information on a potential legal issue? Is the brand new car you recently purchased continuously in the shop? Do you know your state's Lemon Law? Sure you could "Google" it, but did you know that the Air Force has a Legal Assistance website that offers you information on a variety of topics? The next time you have a legal question, visit https://aflegalassistance.law.af.mil The Air Force JAG Corps unveiled the website in 2010. The website is designed for active duty and Reserve members, retirees, and dependents. It was created to increase efficiency and track client satisfaction with the Air Force legal assistance program. Because it is a public site, clients may access the site from the comfort of their home, without a CAC card. The website offers information on a variety of topics, including consumer and financial affairs, deployment readiness, disaster assistance, family law and immigration, military benefits, taxation and the list goes on. In addition to the tremendous benefit of easy access to information on these legal topics, you also have access to online questionnaires for wills, living wills, and powers of attorney. By filling out these questionnaires and worksheets at home or at your office, you are more apt to have access to the information that is required on the worksheet. Completing an online worksheet can help you minimize multiple JAG office visits. Once you complete the online worksheet, the website provides each client a unique ticket number. The entered data is secure and may only be accessed by the legal office, using the ticket number. Be sure to write your ticket number down. You will need it when you visit our office to finalize your legal document. Legal documents cannot be printed from the website. Although the website increases convenience for clients, please understand that the information on the website is for educational and informational purposes only. It cannot replace consultation with your local JAG, and one should never rely solely on the website when making decisions. As a reminder, we provide legal assistance to our Dobbins Air Reserve Base personnel during each Unit Training Assembly. We offer walk-in services on Saturday and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment. Powers of Attorney and Notary services are provided Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and any time during the UTA. Call 678-655-5199 for information. We look forward to continuing to serve the legal needs of the Dobbins community and sincerely hope that you find this website helpful. We value your feedback as our office continues to look for ways to better serve you.
