The Tenth Annual Corn & Sausage Roast is scheduled for July 16, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Verhulst Hall, next to Dobbins Air Reserve Base lodging.

Hosted by the Square and Compass Club, this event has become a "third Monday in July" staple in the Dobbins community, with all proceeds donated to the Airman and Family Readiness Emergency Fund, used to aid deployed Airmen's families in times of need.

"Financial problems can occur at any time, especially when a family member is deployed," said Dallas Godfrey, 94th Logistics Readiness Squadron transportation accountable officer and event volunteer.

This year's roast will offer a choice of 2 plates. The first, one ear of corn and one bratwurst for five dollars, and the second, two ears of corn and two bratwursts, for a donation of seven dollars. Both options come with a drink, desert, and condiments.

The Square and Compass Club also accepts donations during the event. For a one dollar donation, a ticket will be entered into a drawing for a handmade quilt.

Last year's event raised $969. An additional $1000 contribution was made to the fund from the Dobbins Thrift Store.

"This fund operates under the same set of guidelines as the Air Force Aid Society, except we help only Reservists," said Turk. "This money is only for the Airmen who have an emergency situation and, through no fault of their own, end up in a financial crisis. A good chunk of our fund comes from this event, so we are very grateful of the coordinators and patrons."
