Commander sends Veterans Day message Published Nov. 10, 2014 By Col. Brett Clark 94th Airlift Wing commander DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- Tomorrow, on Veteran's Day, we will salute the brave men and women who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America. America's Veterans have paved our nation's road to freedom. Time and again, they have faced the evils of war and answered the call to secure our freedom, to maintain our national interests and to defend our sacred liberties. For more than two centuries, these courageous warriors have willingly fought to preserve the liberties and the legacy of our forefathers who battled so vallianty to secure them on our behalf. Each day, you are building on their legacy when you prepare...when you deploy. When you hold back your tears, turn away from your loved ones and turn toward your mission. That is when your faithful service ignites the enduring spirit of our nation. In doing so, each and every one of you strengthens the unity of the American people with a stubborn resolve for freedom, justice and democracy. History teaches us that every generation has had to lean on our military, particularly our Airmen. Since the airplane was invented, airpower has played a critical role in all major U.S. wars or contingencies. Inspired by the Royal Air Force who fought and won the Battle of Britain in World War II, Winston Churchill said, "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." So with history as our guide, you may also be asked to go into harm's way to protect our country, just like every other Veteran who has gone before us. Knowing air power is a pivotal component in in any combat operation, I have no doubt that you stand ready to answer the call with dignity and honor. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our mission. I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable Veterans Day!
