94th OSS changes command Published Dec. 11, 2014 By Tech. Sgt. Benjamin Tyler Hayes 94th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- The 94 Operational Support Squadron held a change of command ceremony here Dec. 6, 2014. The flag was passed as outgoing commander Col. Richard Briggs relinquished his authority to Lt. Col. Brian Ferguson. "Briggs has laid an excellent foundation, now it's up to us to step up," said Ferguson, readily accepting his new command. Ferguson, a Dobbins native, is a decorated command pilot with 5,400 flying hours and over 600 hours of combat and combat support flight time. A change of command is a military tradition that represents a formal transfer of authority and responsibility of a unit from one commanding officer to another. The passing of colors, standards or ensigns from an outgoing commander to an incoming one ensures the unit and its servicemembers are never without official leadership. It also symbolizes a continuation of trust and allegiance of unit members to their commander. In his closing remarks, Briggs extended gratitude to those who helped him grow as a leader; "This has been both the most challenging and most rewarding thing I've done in my Air Force career. Thanks to everyone who had confidence in me."
