DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. – Maj. Gen. John Flournoy, Jr., Air Force Reserve Command deputy commander, announced the nominations for the 2019 Security Community Awards last week. Among the nominees were two of Dobbins’ own: Karen Toriello-Fite, 94th Airlift Wing chief of information protection, and Lauran Oswald, 94th AW security specialist.
Toriello-Fite was nominated for the Air Force Security Award for Excellence, while Oswald was nominated for the Air Force Security Award for Outstanding Contribution.
The awards recognize the use of security concepts and knowledge from multiple security disciplines to support the command and Air Force missions.
“I’m new to the security field, so I had a lot of learning to do,” said Toriello-Fite. “I think it also gave me a fresh perspective.”
Oswald credits her attention to detail and passion for customer service as reason for being nominated.
“I have been doing this job for a number of years, and paying attention to details and making sure the products and customer service I provide to Dobbins and others are helpful and current,” said Oswald. “I am proud to be of service as a civilian employee.”
The base commander also praised the two, adding that the wing already recognizes their significant contributions.
“Congratulations on your selection as AFRC Security Awards nominees,” said Col. Craig McPike, 94th AW commander. “This is excellent news, and announces to the command what we already knew – you are the best of the best!”
Both security professionals will now compete at the Air Force level where they’ll represent the Air Force Reserve Command.
