Heritage to Horizons Published June 11, 2007 By Deon Geiger DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga., -- Since the Air Force separated ftom the Army in the 1940's, it has continued to advance. It uses more powerful weapons such as laser guided missiles. The Air Force is doing its best in creating new and more powerful weapons such as the laser guided missile and the 2000 miles per hour jet that shoots the missile. lhe jet is called the C.1.30 and can go up to 2,000 miles per hour. Airmen can fly the jet fast without wrecking it. The Air force is also trained to do challenging things such as fighting in the air and in flying using an air plan. Not only do they fly, the Air Force is skilled at hand-to-hand combat. The Air Force is doing the best it can to protect the United States of America. It is in control of air-to-air combat and is constantly advancing so that it can protect us. The Air Force plays a major role in transporting troops in battle and also in transporting equipment to the battle field. It also has a C.1.30 aircraft which is used by hospitals. It has padded armor and is very well protected. The aircraft is responsible for humanitarian missions. It can carry more than 20 people such as military nurses and doctors and is used to help get people who are hurt to safety. The Air force has a rich heritage and so do I. I would not be the person I am today if it were not for my heritage. My family has a strong heritage. My great grandfather made a reputation for our family name. He was called 'Iron Man' because he used rocks to make houses. He was a strong man and was good at lifting things. My mother teaches me about life, how to be strong, and how to get through life. My grandmother seems to know a lot about the family. She tells me stories about her mistakes in life so that I won't do the same. She uses sayings like "An empty wagon makes a lot of noise." She also says, "There is more than one way to skin a cat." This is like the Air Force. It is creating a strong heritage like my family. My family and I are excelling like the Air force. My family works hard at doing its best. That is why I make sure I am doing my best in school.
