The rain held off, the temperature took a cool dip in the middle of a hot spell, and it all made for a great day of burgers and hot dogs as the Air Force Sergeants Association held its annual cookout at Dobbins.

Attended by approximately 125 Reservists and guests, the cookout emphasized the appreciation that Chapter 452 and its auxiliary wanted to convey to Dobbins' reservists. Known as the Dobbins Chapters, 452 and 452A have deep roots in supporting Dobbins base activities and personnel. In the past the groups have provided funds for a variety of needs, including holiday baskets, Family Readiness funds, and Dobbins POW/MIA Memorial Park funding.

During the cookout, Jim Thomas, president of AFSA's Division 4, presented Col. Heath Nuckolls, 94th Airlift Wing commander, with an honorary membership and a pledge from the group to continue its support of Air Force personnel and objectives from national to local levels.

"The Air Force Reserve depends on groups such as the Air Forces Sergeants Association to help with our goals and policies in Congress," Colonel Nuckolls said. "They can do things in Washington that we in uniform cannot do. And, we appreciate them providing us lunch today."

At the national level, AFSA is active in lobbying Congress on behalf of active-duty Air Force and Air Force Reserve issues. If you're interested in joining the group, call Sam McDowell during evening hours at 770-439-8507. Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at the American Legion Hall on Gresham Ave. in Marietta.
