More than 1,000 Junior ROTC cadets got a chance to fly aboard a C-130 during the base's annual JROTC orientation flights here April 14-15. The students came from 30 high schools from the Atlanta area and surrounding states and represented various military branches including the Air Force, Marines, Navy and Army.

The cadets flew with their classmates for a short flight of about 30 minutes. While aboard they were allowed to walk around the plane and explore the cockpit. Also during the flight the cadets got to experience a demonstration of the different altitudes. The flight took the cadets around the Atlanta area including Stone Mountain, a famous landmark just northeast of the city.

When the cadets weren't flying, they were able to visit a hangar filled with static display tables and representatives from Air Force career fields such as the 94th Security Forces Squadron, 94th Life Support Flight and 94th Emergency Management available to brief the cadets on aspects of each career and to explain some of the equipment from their field.

Also available for the cadets to explore was a C-130 static display of how members of the 94th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron evacuate injured personnel, including necessary in-flight medical procedures.

Finally, members of the 94th Airlift Wing Honor Guard demonstrated precision and attention to detail with their flag folding and rifle displays.

"This event is a great idea," said Master Sergeant Sandy Williams, an aerospace instructor for Morrow High School, Ga. "The cadets really look forward to it every year."
The event was a great recruitment opportunity, and the display set up by the 94th Airlift Wing Recruiting Office took great advantage of that. Most of the cadets prepared their plans for entering the military after their high school graduation.

"I want to be in the Air Force after I graduate," said Cadet Tech. Sgt. Shante Hodges from Lovejoy High School, Ga. "Because I want to do something meaningful with my life."
