The Base Civil Engineer division of Dobbins Air Reserve Base continues to explore projects that improve working and living conditions on the base. The current effort to realign Mimosa Drive with Dobbins Place is one of those projects.

Realigning Mimosa Drive and Dobbins Place will improve traffic by creating a 'straighter' path flow and increase parking with approximately 297 additional spaces. This realignment will also include the necessary roadway and parking lot markings, landscaping, street lighting, utility relocation and protection and street and traffic signage, while modifying and improving the storm drainage system.

Included in this project will be the Mill and overlay Building 737 parking lot, which will provide new pavement markings, raise and add additional manholes, drainage inlets and appurtenances.

The conceptual design for this area was a direct result of a flight line transportation study that was completed in 2005. The actual construction design was a joint venture engineering between the firms Concord and Toland-Mizell with the contract awarded to 32 Engineering, Inc. at the price of $1.7 million.

The project is currently 33 percent complete. Phase II was completed in early March while Phase I is scheduled to be complete in early June.

With numerous construction projects underway, and many affecting the 'movement' around Dobbins, CE understands the importance of keeping the base population informed of the developments and how they will create the need to adjust traveling on base.

Each month CE will submit updates and highlights of current projects, keeping you better informed. CE appreciates the base population's understanding and cooperation during these improvements.
