Wing announces 2008 Civilian Personnel Officer of the Year Published March 19, 2009 By Master Sgt. Stan Coleman Public Affairs DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- Mr. Weldon D. Godfrey, Human Resources Officer here, is the Air Force Reserve Command's Civilian Personnel Officer of the Year for 2008. Mr. Godfrey has served in this position for more than 14 years. What makes this job so enjoyable for Mr. Godfrey to serve nearly a decade and a half? "I enjoy working with the finest personnel staff in the world in serving our base," said "W.D.," as he is fondly called. "I am an advocate for equality for all people and have had the pleasure of seeing Dobbins transform into a great place to work for all people." Colonel Steven Slick, 94th Mission Support Group commander, cited W.D. as being "an absolute leader in AFRC" for his input and involvement with the Department of Defense's National Security Personnel System. W.D.'s achievements within the NSPS area included assistance and training to all commanders on the NSPS Performance Appraisal Application tool and his service as technical advisor regarding pay pools, which included the 94th Airlift Wing, 22nd Air Force and the 622nd Regional Support Group. W.D. is also applauded for his technical expertise for the mentoring he provided to group commanders on specific issues within their personnel functions. W.D.'s commitment to service extended beyond his regular job duties. W.D. coordinated and hosted an annual health fair for all DOD employees in the Dobbins commuting area. He serves as a webmaster and photographer for the Kennworth Bandits Gold Fastpitch Softball Team. For more than 30 years, W.D. has also supported a local Boy Scout troop in his area by "providing guidance and assisting with fund-raising activities." The Reserves are "a great partner to the active-duty forces," said W.D. "We provide the same commitment to quality and a high level of service at a lower cost for our country."
