First line of defense Published June 7, 2009 By Airman Chelsea Gitzen 94th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- When entering the base - Have all identification (ID) cards ready for you and your passenger(s). - Slowly approach at about 5 miles per hour. - Dim your vehicle's lights if applicable. - Present all available ID cards to the guard at the gate serving as the installation entry controller. - Declare any contraband (i.e. weapons, drugs, etc.) that you or your passengers are carrying or concealing in the vehicle. - Ask the installation entry controller any questions you may have regarding directions or other necessary information. - Proceed slowly into the installation Correct forms of ID - Military ID including the following forms: retired, dependant, or active. - Driver's license or other government-issued forms of ID. If you or your passenger does not have a military, government or installation-related ID - You may be directed by the installation entry controller to bring your vehicle to the pass and ID building located before the front gate. - If the pass and ID building is closed, the installation entry controller may issue you and your vehicle a temporary pass pending the presentation of the following valid items: driver's license, proof of insurance, and proof of registration for the vehicle. Procedures to follow during a vehicle search - Drive to the designated area for inspection as determined by the installation entry controller. - Turn off your vehicle's engine. - Exit your vehicle, and direct any passengers you may have to exit as well. - Open all doors, the glove compartment and center console, the trunk and hood of your car. - Present your driver's license, valid proof of insurance and valid proof of registration for the vehicle to the installation entry controller. - Declare any contraband (i.e. weapons, drugs, etc.) that you or your passengers are carrying or concealing in the vehicle. - After the inspection of your vehicle is complete as determined by the installation entry controller, re-enter your vehicle, and proceed onto the installation. Things to remember when entering the installation - Remain calm and patient. - Stay in your vehicle. - Have all available IDs ready before reaching the installation entry controller. - Remember that the installation entry controller's mission is to provide a secure entrance to the installation and also to cater to the needs of all persons entering the base. This may include answering any questions regarding locations of buildings or units, directions, etc.
