Job Title: Physical Scientist 

What does your job entail?
"I am the base contact for recycling and Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) authorization, getting rid of hazardous waste, and the base green purchasing agent for energy efficient and water efficent products."

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
"Making sure the needs of base personnel are met while meeting regulatory requirements."

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
"Seeing base personnel take pride in understanding why we do some of the things we do like purchasing green products."

What is the best place you have traveled through the Department Of Defense?
"The Georgia Recycling Coalition Conference in St. Simmons Island near Savannah, Ga."

How did you end up in this career field?
"I graduated with a degree in meteorology while my husband was a civilian firefighter. His chief at the time wanted people in the enviromental field so he convinced me to try it out. I started out as an asbestos inspector."

How is your family life?
"I have been married for 11 years and I have three children. Two daughters in college and an 8-year-old son at home."

What is the most important lesson you have learned while working with the Department Of Defense?
"It is important to meet the mission requirements while ensuring the enviromental requirements are met."

What do you enjoy doing outside of work for fun?
"I am a Sunday School teacher at my church, the president of my Homeowners Association and I love to hit the beach as much as possible."

What advice would you give to someone trying to work for the Department Of Defense as a civilian?
"Be serious about your education and open your eyes to what kind of jobs are available. The more eduacation you have, the more desirable you are to the government."
