Chaplain (Maj.) Erwin L. Carrow celebrated 10 years of meeting the spiritual needs of the 94th Airlift Wing during his farewell sermon at the Dobbins Chapel Sept. 13.

Chaplain Carrow will be transitioning to the 78th Air Base Wing at Robins Air Force Base, Ga., where, in his own words, he will continue his mission in life, to serve. As a chaplain he believes it's important to keep others first.

"I don't like awards and I never wanted to be number one," said Chaplain Carrow. "I am very grateful to be number two. Number two loves you and builds you up. I am here to see you succeed. You all are number one."

Although the chaplain claims that he's number two, he was the focal point of the worship service. Friends, family and Airmen watched as he was presented a Meritorious Service Medal by Chaplain (Lt. Col.) William B. Ferrell of the 94th Airlift Wing.

During his Dobbins tenure, Chaplain Carrow has been involved in many base events and activities. He has been a key player in the implementation of the local Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program, which helps Airman returning from deployment transition back to their civilian lifestyle. He also served on Dobbins and Naval Air Station Atlanta's Joint Black Heritage Worship Service and National Prayer Breakfast committees. He has skillfully counseled numerous base personnel on issues ranging from marriage and family relationships, to workplace problems and suicide.

"I would like to leave you with my life verse," said Chaplain Carrow. "As stated in 2 Timothy 1:7, stir up the gifts of God within you, for he has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
