"Give Today and Change Tomorrow" - 2009 Combined Federal Campaign underway Published Oct. 4, 2009 By Master Sgt. Angelita Colón-Francia Public Affairs DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- September 15 marked the official start of the 2009 Metropolitan Atlanta Combined Federal Campaign, the only official charitable drive for federal civilian and Airmen assigned here. Last year the 94th Airlift Wing was able to raise more than $38,000 and the goal for this year is $50,450. Established in 1961, CFC is the world's largest workplace charity campaign in the United States and generates millions of dollars annually for thousands of local, national and international organizations. There are more than 300 CFC campaigns throughout the country, including the Metropolitan Atlanta CFC. According to Dallas Godfrey, Dobbins CFC director, Airmen and civilians should donate to the CFC to help people who are less fortunate. "It's as easy as signing your name," he said. "A person can look through the catalog, pick the charity of their choice, fill out a CFC pledge card and turn it into their (organization's) key worker." Tech. Sgt. Larysa Lewis, an Air Reserve Technician in the 94th Personnel Readiness, said she is making a donation to CFC because she can allocate funds to different agencies that support military members. "I think it's important to give because you never know when you might need it," said Sergeant Lewis. The mission of the CFC is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee focused, cost-efficient, and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all. Master Sgt. Catherine Nolan, non-commissioned officer-in-charge of the 94th Education and Training office, said, "I do it every year. I give to charities that have affected my life and the lives of my family members." The Metropolitan Atlanta CFC closes October 27. Airmen who wish to contribute to this year's campaign but have not received a 2009 CFC pledge card and catalogue, should contact their squadron or unit CFC representative: 22nd Air Force Master Sgt.
