Seven Digit Dialing on its way Published Oct. 30, 2009 By Master Sgt. P.N. Brown Public Affairs DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- Letting your fingers do the walking will be a longer trip when you are dialing numbers on Dobbins Air Reserve Base. Soon the days of simply dialing "5" and the last four numbers will be a thing of the past. According to Maj. Kayla Sailor, 94th Communications Flight commander, they have been directed by the Defense Information Systems Agency to transition to seven-digit dialing. "You can dial the 655 prefix and number now to practice because by Jan. 2011 that will be the only way to call anyone on base," said Major Sailer. All of the other calls will remain the same. For instance, members will still dial "99" for an outside line and then dial the complete the number. For long distance, dial "98" before the number. The DSN "94" prefix will not change. "We want to get the word out to everyone so the transition will be as seamless as possible," said Major Sailer.
