6/23/2009 - DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- Air Force Reserve Command recently selected the Dobbins Fire Department here for its 2008 Fire Prevention Program Award.

The award recognizes the Dobbins Fire Department as the best Fire Prevention Program, preventing loss of personnel and base assets.

"Last year our Fire Department protected assets valued at $690 million with a loss of only $300," said Col. Steven H. Slick, 94th Mission Support Group commander. "That is an extraordinary accomplishment."

With its Fire Extinguisher Program, the Dobbins Fire Department executed 164 base-wide comprehensive fire inspections.

"The way to run a stellar program is to stay abreast of the latest fire prevention training," said William L. Wilson, assistant chief of Fire Prevention. "We get a lot of hands-on training through the base populace and from local fire departments in the community."

Other programs provided by the Dobbins Fire Department last year included public safety education to more than 3,800 base employees and visitors, fire musters for base reservists and their family members during the annual wing family day and participating in the joint Annual Naval Air Station Atlanta and Dobbins ARB Health and Safety Fair.

"We support not only the Air Force, but our Army, Navy and Marine tenants as well," said Chief Wilson.

Dobbins' fire fighters will now compete at Air Force level and represent AFRC for Fire Prevention Program of the Year at the Air Force Fire and Emergency Services Conference in Dallas, Texas.

"This is our third consecutive award for this program," said Chief Wilson. "We look forward to competing this year for the fourth."
