Reservists are learning skills to become more effective communicators and leaders during the Non-Commissioned Officer Leadership Development Course currently underway here.

The NCOLDC is a 10-day curriculum for immersing in leadership, management and communications. An average class size of 25 enlisted personnel from Dobbins between the ranks of senior airman and technical sergeant complete the course.

Students at the April 2010 class offered their thoughts about the program. "The classes definitely help NCOs improve their communication and leadership skills and helps them get in touch with their personal skills," said Tech. Sgt. Roosevelt Oggs, 80th Aerial Port Squadron, Air Terminal Operations.

"We learned how we can communicate together and accomplish a mission," said Staff Sgt. Douglas Hicks, 80th Aerial Port Squadron, Air Terminal Operations.

"The class incorporates hands-on team building exercises using principles of leadership," said Staff Sgt. Misty Craig, 94th Civil Engineering Squadron, Structures. "We worked in teams to build towers out of balloons to simulate building a new radio tower," said Craig.

Phase one of the course incorporates leadership, management and military heritage. Phase two includes communication, time management and effective writing. Upon completion of the NCOLDC, two college credit hours are awarded to each student from Central Texas College.

Quarterly sessions are conducted at Dobbins. The NCOLD sign-up is voluntary, but highly recommended for mid-level enlisted personnel. "Eligible students can apply for a future class by contacting their training manager or first sergeant," said Senior Master Sgt. Joy Hughes, Chief, Education and Training.
