In order to meet a new 53.5 hour combat readiness requirement levied by Air Force Headquarters, the 94th Security Forces Squadron conducted a field training exercise (FTX) at the Dead Runway here June 3-6.

"The training was very successful," said Master Sgt. Scott A. Laflamme, superintendent of training for the 94 SFS. "Approximately 25.5 hours of the training was completed in the first two days. The success of the exercise was due to a joint effort of all agencies involved."

Several active duty, guard and reserve servicemembers helped the 94 SFS meet their training objectives. The 94th Services Squadron provided food and lodging the Eastern Recruiting Squadron provided opposing forces (OPFOR) to set up an ambush the Army 171st Aviation Brigade provided tactical vehicles and the 283rd Combat Communications Squadron provided additional combat tactical equipment.

In a combination of exercises, 94 SFS members participated in shoot, move, and communicate scenarios crucial to meeting the Security Forces mission to secure, protect and defend Air Force weapons systems, air base assets, personnel and resources.

"The Security Forces are tasked with protecting all Air Base Operations," said Master Sgt. John C. Peden from the 94 SFS. "The training is significant because this is the same job we do when we deploy," he said. "We get between the bad guy and the resource."
