2010 Employer Day A Success Published July 11, 2010 By Staff Sgt. Samuel Hunt Public Affairs DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- This year over 30 civilian employers visited Dobbins Air Reserve Base for the annual Employer Day event July 10. The day began with a brief by the 22nd Air Force Commander, Col. Jon Andre and the 94th Airlift Wing Commander, Col. Timothy Tarchick. Following were the committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. Shortly after, the civilians were transported to the Dobbins firing range and Explosive Ordinance Device area for a demonstration of weapons and explosives. The 94th Security Forces Squadron explained the various weapons used by Air Force personnel in garrison and on deployment. 94 AW Executive Officer Maj. Timothy Welch and Master Sgt. Brad McKinney, 94 EOD Flight, lead the demonstrations of the different types of explosive devices that our troops may experience downrange. Dan Guider, pastor at Iron Hill Baptist Church in Acworth, Ga., asked, "What makes you get into a job like this?" Sergeant McKinney responded in kind with, "I know who I am protecting, starting with my kids and for the love of my country." The employers were excited about getting a chance to participate in the C-130 orientation flight. For many of them this was their first experience in a military aircraft. The approximately 35-minute flight took the civilian employers northward in the area of Lake Allatoona and back. "The flight was fun. This day was fantastic," said retired Air Force pilot Jim G. Dickensheets. For lunch the ESGR sponsored the meal for the employers to give them an example of what is served during here on Dobbins. Armed with the increased knowledge of what their employees are exposed to during a Unit Training Assembly, the civilians left with pride for those who work for them while simultaneously serving their country.
