Construction of the new Ground Control Approach building is now complete at Dobbins. The one-story facility is located adjacent to Base Operations and the Dobbins control tower.

The present GCA is located in an air transportable shelter and is undersized for the latest communications equipment. At 3,500 square feet, the new GCA will provide plenty of space for electronics and a comfortable working environment for employees. Some of the highlights of the facility include uninterruptable power, backup generator and HVAC system.

The cost of the building was $1.45 million. Under construction in the background is the future control tower which has an estimated completion date of November 2011.

Design and engineering was performed by Merrick and Company of Atlanta. Windamir Construction of McDonough, Ga., was responsible for project construction. The Dobbins project team consisted of engineers Bijan Raouf, Jim Busi and engineer technician Chris Howe.
