Ask any Air Force Reserve recruiter--"what's so great about recruiting?"

The answer you'll get from Senior Master Sgt. Kristyn Ervin, 94th Airlift Wing Recruiting Office senior recruiter, won't be a textbook answer. Her answer is one of real-world experience.

"One of the most satisfying aspects being a recruiter is seeing the positive results of the benefits the Air Force Reserve has to offer," said Sergeant Ervin, after gathering with the family of Staff Sgt. Joseph East to witness his oath of enlistment after six years of service in the Air Force Reserve Dec. 4.

Sergeant East serves with the 94th Civil Engineer Squadron as a pavements maintenance and heavy equipment operator. He is also employed by the Army Corps of Engineers as a civilian.

Sergeant Ervin recruited Sergeant East into the Air Force Reserve six years ago in Hawaii and was invited to attend his reenlistment.

"Sergeant East's family was very involved with him making the decision to join Air Force Reserve," said Sergeant Ervin. "They were supportive then and they are still supportive now."

"I wanted to serve my country," said Sergeant East. "My father retired from the Army and he served with the Army Corps of Engineers.

"My mom also served in the Army National Guard. In fact my mom and her three sisters enlisted at the same time and went to boot camp together," he said.

Sergeant Ervin takes pride in seeing the achievements of an Airman she recruited.

"You don't always get to witness the after-effects of a recruit who has joined the Reserve," she said. "Being here for Sergeant East's reenlistment is very special for me. It gives me great pride see Sergeant East transition from a civilian to an outstanding Airman."
