Airmen from Dobbins Air Reserve Base recently traveled to East Paulding High School, Paulding County, Ga., to judge a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps drill competition.

The Southern Invitational Drill Meet judged JROTC students on various skills including drill performance, customs and courtesies, and dress and appearance.

For Staff Sgt. Cissy Prince, 94th Logistics Readiness Squadron log planner and volunteer drill judge, the best part of the competition was when she judged the Armed Exhibition portion, which allowed students to showcase their skills during a performance they were allowed to script.

"There really was a 'wow' factor when the students performed their (armed) exhibition routines," said Sergeant Prince. "I was really impressed with all the performances. Throughout the day, the students' military bearing, professionalism and dedication were very impressive."

Although the students were the stars of the day, the appreciation for the judges and military presenters was also felt throughout East Paulding's auditorium.

"The judges were great, we really enjoyed performing for them today," said Thomas Vallrugo, East Paulding High School JROTC Cadet 2nd Lt. "They were sharp, and really helped the competition run smoothly."

The cadets were judged in eight group categories including Armed Regulation, Unarmed Exhibition, Armed Exhibition, Unarmed Color Guard, Armed Color Guard, Unarmed Inspection, Armed Inspection and Unarmed Regulation.

After the students were finished performing, Chief Master Sgt. John Anderson, 94th AW command chief and Col. Richard L. Kemble, 94th AW vice commander, presented the awards including the overall winners for Unarmed Division and Armed Division, which was Jefferson High School, Jefferson, Ga.

"I really had a great time," Sergeant Prince said. "This was my first year judging and I hope I can do this again next year."
