This week’s Up Close features Staff Sgt. Kristie Gold, 94th Aeromedical Staging Squadron NCOIC of command support staff. Up Close is a series spotlighting individuals around Dobbins Air Reserve Base.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
Thibodaux, Louisiana
WHY DID YOU JOIN?
My uncle was also in the Air Force. He worked in fuels so I used to hear all his stories from his travels with the Air Force. I did a semester of college back home and realized it wasn’t for me because I love to travel, so I wanted to be a part of something bigger than just being a student.
WHAT DO YOU DO ON THE CIVILIAN SIDE?
I have two civilian jobs. One is with Advocare, a health and wellness company, and the other is with the Social Security Administration. I like it because customer service is a passion of mine. I love meeting new people. It’s a fun job because no two days are the same.
FAVORITE AIR FORCE EXPERIENCE?
I went to Indonesia for a humanitarian mission. I was stationed at Yokota and I worked in medical readiness there. In 2009, we went to Indonesia and we set up a clinic there. We saw more than 300 patients a day.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES?
Working out. I used to be a bodybuilder before I had my son. Now I do CrossFit, where I compete. I also like to go on hikes. I just like being outdoors.
PERSONAL/PROFESSIONAL GOALS?
I’d like to help more people on a health and fitness level. I’m very passionate about helping people. Professionally, I’d like to become an officer in the Air Force.
BEST ADVICE EVER RECEIVED?
Never let anyone tell you no. If it’s something you want to do, continue to push for it. A captain I used to work for gave me this advice, and now I give it to others as well.
SOMETHING NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT YOU?
I like to eat frozen hot dogs.
