Fire teams from Dobbins joined forces with local crews from the Smyrna Fire Department, Smyrna, Ga., to conduct mutual aid training at the newly opened air traffic control tower Aug. 23-24.

The training consisted of a walk through and familiarization of the facility followed by aerial ladder placement of Smyrna truck number one.

The new 88 foot tower stands 40 feet taller than the previous structure presenting new challenges for fire personnel. "In the advent of an emergency situation at the tower, the local communities have specialized aerial apparatus that can respond to Dobbins within 10 minutes. Tom Moisan, "B" shift assistant chief with the Dobbins Fire Department said.

Additionally, local units from the city of Marietta and Cobb County will be able to respond as well.
