Dobbins to commemorate 10th anniversary of Sept. 11 attacks

Plans to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks are scheduled Sept. 10-11 to pay tribute to our nation's fallen heroes, military service members and victims of the attacks.

A memorial display will be set up at the base POW/MIA Memorial Park Sept. 10 allowing Dobbins servicemembers to pay respects beginning at 12 p.m. lasting throughout the day. Sept. 11.

The commemoration will begin with the ringing of four bells coinciding with each individual attack.

To conclude the remembrance events, a retreat ceremony is scheduled to be held at the memorial park and will include a performance by the Dobbins Honor Guard.

Events are scheduled as follows:

Sept. 10
12 p.m. Memorial Set-up at POW/MIA Memorial Park, including wreath, Dobbins 9/11 anniversary banner, firefighter/police officer display to include boots/helmet/M-16 surrounding wreath (open to public, allowing people to pay respects throughout the day at their own convenience)

Sept. 11
8:46 a.m. First Bell Ring
* Fire Department members will ring the bell at appropriate times in Remembrance of each specific attack
* Commemorates time American Airlines Flight 11 hit North Tower
* Bell is hidden off site so sound will only be heard (not seen) at memorial

9:03 a.m. Second Bell Ring
* United Airlines Flight 175 hit South Tower

9:37 a.m. Third Bell Ring
* American Airlines Flight 77 hit Pentagon

10:03 a.m. Fourth/Final Bell Ring
* United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, PA

3:45 p.m. 9/11 Ceremony/Retreat Begins (Military members in formation)
* Col Rick Kemble (94 AW/CV) remarks
* Dobbins Honor Guard performs retreat
* SFS/Fire Dept vehicles will surround POW/MIA and act as backdrop

4:05 p.m. Conclusion of Retreat
