Stoic, but not somber. Proud, but no traces of vanity.

Men and women of Dobbins Air Reserve Base gathered to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11th attacks in a Retreat ceremony held at the POW/MIA Memorial Park Sept. 11.

The 15-minute ceremony included remarks by Col. Richard Kemble, 94th Airlift Wing vice commander, an appearance by the 94th Airlift Wing Honor Guard and featured a fire truck display with a 15-member flight made up of Dobbins firefighters.

"The 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11th attacks is a time to reflect on the past 10 years and how the events of that day shape our focus for the future," said Kemble. "Since Sept. 11th, the United States has taken extraordinary efforts to keep America safe."

The ceremony was the conclusion to the weekend remembrance events which included a memorial display that allowed Dobbins service members to pay their respects throughout the day.

"This ceremony gives us an opportunity to pay tribute to those we lost on that tragic day," said Chief Master Sgt. Lyndon Tubbs, 80th Aerial Port superintendent.

Traditionally, Retreat is a military ceremony that serves to pay respect to the American flag and signal the end of the duty day.
