Berkenmeier, Dobbins fire inspector, hands out fire safety literature to members of the 94th Airlift Wing during Fire Prevention Week Oct. 14. National Fire Prevention Week 2011 was observed Oct. 9-15. "This year's theme is Protect Your Family from Fire," said Berkenmeier. "The campaign is all about keeping ourselves, our families, and our communities safer from fire." Safety tips to reduce home fires include staying in the kitchen when cooking, having heating equipment and chimneys inspected and cleaned annually, if you smoke, smoke outside, keeping flammable materials away from light bulbs, light fixtures and lamps and when burning candles indoors, blow them out before leaving the room.
