Barszcz was awarded Air Traffic Controller (Civilian) of the Year here Nov. 16. Maj. Gen. Wallace W. Farris Jr., 22nd Air Force commander, presented the award at a ceremony held in the newly constructed control tower. "This award was well deserved," said Clarence L. Miller, Airfield Operations manager, 94th Operations Group. "Barszcz is being recognized for his many outstanding contributions to the team mission. Barszcz's accomplishments vary from a split-second response involving an F-22 emergency to the coordination of a two day orientation program to airlift 2500 JROTC cadets from Georgia and surrounding area high schools. He was selected for key control positions during high profile visits that included the President, Vice President, State Department and high level military officials, as well as aerial acrobatics performance teams during air shows conducted at Dobbins. Barszcz is also responsible for training newly assigned personnel and appointed as acting crew supervisor during management absences.
