HRDC helps Airmen learn usajobs.gov while out to lunch Published May 17, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Elizabeth Gaston 94th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- The Dobbins Air Reserve Base Human Resource Development Council held a "Lunch & Learn" on how to use the usajob.gov website on May 5 at the Consolidated Club here. During this Lunch & Learn, Mary Hessler, 94th Airlift Wing human resource specialist, offered a tutorial on the website, hints to get job offers and fielded questions from the Airmen in attendance. The website, usajobs.gov, is a regularly updated listing of civil service job opportunities with various federal agencies. The Office of Personnel Management manages the site. Each job listing has descriptions of duties and criteria for applicants. "Use the usajob.gov job descriptions, themselves, to build resumes within your profile on the site," said Hessler. "Be sure to include keywords, such as 'manage', 'independently' and 'routinely'." In addition, Hessler recommended that Airmen make notes on any special duties they are assigned, like use of a government purchase card, and all education and training they have attained. When an interview opportunity is extended, take advantage of phone interviews, rather than driving or flying across the country.
