Do not block exit corridors Published March 7, 2013 By Mike Hodgson Assistant Fire Chief, Dobbins Fire Department DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- The Dobbins Fire Department is requesting the assistance of all base personnel with the issue of the obstruction of egress corridors. Corridors have become blocked with trashcans, recycling bins, and like items. While space is certainly at a premium throughout the installation, the uninhibited and safe evacuation of our employees and visitors in the event of an emergency must remain a top priority. Means of egress shall be continuously maintained free of all obstructions or impediments to full instant use in the case of fire or other emergency, according to the 2012 edition of the Life Safety Code paragraph 7.1.10.1. Fire and life safety is a shared responsibility by all who use, occupy and work in base facilities. The Dobbins Fire Emergency Services is ready, willing, and able to work with you to make the necessary adjustments and find reasonable solutions to these challenges. Please help us make sure that corridors are kept free of stored items and any obstructions at all times.
