First Four decorates Dobbins for holidays Published March 18, 2013 By Senior Airman Elizabeth Van Patten 94th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- Members of the First Four, on behalf of Chief Master Sgt. Wendell Peacock, 94th Airlift Wing command chief, invited Dobbins Air Reserve Base personnel out to decorate the base holiday tree near the front gate, Nov. 30. On hand, helping the junior enlisted with the event were members of the First Sergeant's Council, Top 3 and 56 Groups, the 94th Force Support Squadron and Col. Richard Kemble, 94th AW vice commander. "This type of event offers a chance for the base to come together and get into the holiday spirit," said Senior Airman Michael Roman, First Four president. "We've gotten so much support from leadership and civilians on base, and like the tree, hopefully our young group will stand strong for years to come." The tree itself was donated last October by Berry's Christmas Tree Farm, based out of Covington, Ga., where it grew from a sapling for fifteen years prior to its arrival on Dobbins. Selection, transportation and planting of the tree were coordinated by members of the 94th AW Human Resource Development Council. The council was responsible for the selection of the pine-like Deodar Cedar. "The idea for the tree began as a single suggestion from Col. Tarchick," said Tech. Sgt. Jeff Nix, 94th AW equal opportunity specialist. "When anyone wants anything in life, the solution for that want already exists. You just have to flip a switch and allow it to it happen. Col. Tarchick considered the idea for a tree and cooperative components came together to make that idea a reality." The HRDC flipped that switch and this is the second year that the tree has been decorated for the holidays. The First Four is planning on coordinating the decorating for years to come. "As long as someone has the heart and desire to have the tree decorated for the holidays, then it will stand as a beacon for all," said Nix. "Borrowing a quote from the famous naturalist, John Muir, 'a thing of beauty is a joy forever.'"
