Members of the Dobbins First Sergeants Council, Dobbins Human Resource Development Council, the Lonely Hearts Club and Military Order of the Purple Heart -Chapter 576 met on Dec. 5 to assemble baskets of holiday food for Airmen in need at Dobbins Air Reserve Base.

The baskets were each filled with a holiday meal, complete with all the trimmings, for the purpose of feeding an Airman's family on Christmas should the Airman, through no fault of their own, be experiencing a hardship this Christmas season.

"This chapter of Military Order of the Purple Heart is very proud to be able to bring some holiday cheer to those that are less fortunate," said Walter Swenson, Chapter 576 president. "It's a great privilege and an honor for us to be able to continue to come back here and give back to those still serving. We hope that everything is enjoyed by those who receive them."

The baskets were discretely distributed during the December drill weekend to Airmen nominated by their first sergeant. If you know of an Airman in need, please contact your unit's first sergeant or Master Sgt. Patrina Sheffield, 94th Maintenance Squadron first sergeant by email at patrina.sheffield.1@us.af.mil.

"I don't know what to say, other than thank you," said Col. Timothy Tarchick, 94th Airlift Wing commander. "I was talking to Chief Peacock, and we agreed that this takes on more meaning each year as we start thinking about the transition into retirement. We need to continue this legacy of giving back and taking care of our men and women in uniform."
