Hercules Council visits base, tours EOC Published June 11, 2013 By Senior Airman Elizbeth Van Patten 94th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- Members of the 94th Airlift Wing hosted the Hercules Council, a grassroots community relations program named in honor of its trademark transport aircraft fleet, at a quarterly meeting June 6 here. Josephine Atkins, 94th Emergency Management chief, met with the council in the Emergency Operations Center and explained how the EOC integrates with agencies on base and the surrounding community during an emergency. "The Crisis Action Team, chaired by the installation commander, is set up to continue to support the mission of the base," said Atkins. "In the event of a large-scale incident or accident, the CAT will stand up the EOC, whose primary responsibility will be to manage the incident itself. The members of the EOC mirror what you will find in local community EOCs. The bottom line is that our mission is to save lives." In addition, the EM team was on hand to demonstrate with some basic emergency response equipment such as chemical detection equipment. The group was also briefed by Col Timothy Tarchick, 94th AW commander, on the overall state of the wing and fielded questions from the council members. "We recently completed several major inspections," said Tarchick. "We did well! Our programs are sound. Our base and perimeter is in good shape. In regards to force structure, this wing is set to receive eight new C-130H3 aircraft, and will send off our eight C-130H2 models. " This change is scheduled to occur this fall, and will result in Dobbins aircrews flying aircraft that are approximately ten years younger. Tarchick also spoke on the effect upcoming furloughs would have on the local community. For more information, please click here.
