Companies look to hire heroes during job fair

Over 180 military members, Department of Defense civilians and dependents took advance of a free job, education and veteran benefit fair March 3.

Representatives from ESGR, the 94th AW Education and Training Office, and several companies - such as Home Depot, Delta, and Upper Limit Aviation - were also present at the fair, looking to hire.

"Some companies had many positions available all over the country, offering a lot of flexibility to our Reservists who may not be in the local area," said Brande Newsome, 94th Airlift Wing sexual assault response coordinator and fair coordinator. "The turnout was very good for this being the first fair in years. The goal is to continue to build on our success from today in order to maintain a pool of resources for our members for tomorrow."

This program would benefit those like Senior Airman Shameka Wiggins, of the 94th Financial Management Office, whose exploring her options within the current job market.

"It's important for everyone to get informed about the opportunities available to them," said Wiggins. "I attended the fair to get some leads on finding a better job. I walked out with several viable options, as well as some additional resources from ESGR, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the education office. Overall, this was a great event. The first step for me was showing up."
