This week’s Up Close features Staff Sgt. Charles Ennis, 94th Aeromedical Staging Squadron medical technician. Up Close is a series spotlighting individuals around Dobbins Air Reserve Base.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

My dad was in the military, so I’m a military brat, but now I live in Acworth, Ga.

WHY DID YOU JOIN?

I saw my dad serve, and also when I was looking at what I wanted to do, I knew the Air Force would give me a lot of opportunities to do that.

WHAT DO YOU DO ON THE CIVILIAN SIDE?

I work as an IT systems specialist at the Home Depot corporate office. Although my job on the civilian side is completely different from my job at Dobbins, I love it because I wanted to do something in the business world and the medical world. I like both of my careers and it works out perfectly.

FAVORITE AIR FORCE EXPERIENCE?

I got to work down at headquarters over the summer. I got to see the inner workings of the Reserve and how it all works. I also got meet leadership, the commanders, the Surgeon General, Lt. Gen. Scobee. It was a really good experience working down there.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES?

I love to run races, like 5Ks and half marathons. I love the adrenaline of competition.

PERSONAL/PROFESSIONAL GOALS?

Here at the unit, I want to make technical sergeant. In terms of personal goals, I really want to run the Air Force marathon.

BEST ADVICE EVER RECEIVED?

Life is ten percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react. I believe I first heard this from my dad, but I’ve heard it several times throughout my life.

SOMETHING NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT YOU?

I’m really into the study of apologetics, the defense of faith against doubts.
