DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. – Dobbins Air Reserve Base hosted this year’s annual Academy Day event last Saturday.

The event, sponsored by U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, is the largest of its kind and has been hosted here for more than a decade. Isakson created Academy Day as a one-stop shop where Georgia students can learn more about military service academies as well as the application process.

Throughout the day, students and their families met with service academy representatives and asked questions about application timelines and the overall process. The representatives answered questions from behind their information tables and also stepped out into the crowd to talk individually with those congregated around the tables.

Congressional representatives also had information tables set up since they play an important role in the application process. In most cases, potential applicants must gain a congressional nomination before applying to a military service academy.

Also on hand were representatives from the Civil Air Patrol and regional colleges. The open hangar doors led out to the ramp where a variety of aircraft were on display for the future military leaders to explore.

Academy Day concluded with academy representatives and the senator speaking to the crowd of nearly a thousand students and family members in attendance.

After the main event, West Point and the Air Force Academy hosted smaller breakout sessions where future applicants could ask questions in a more intimate setting.
