Dobbins LRS, contractors work together to streamline deployment process Published May 17, 2017 By Staff Sgt. Andrew Park 94th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- Several Dobbins members recently put the final touches on preparing to deploy. This included receiving mobility bags, which contain a gas mask, canisters and other items required to keep them safe in deployed environments. Earlier, the 94th Logistics Readiness Squadron and contractors worked together to revamp the process so deployers can quickly receive these required items and head downrange to support the fight. “We’ve streamlined the process from when I first got here,” said Mark Young, a 94th LRS supply and fuels coordinator. “Now, we can get people in and out in an hour and ten minutes for 80 people.” To put that in perspective, Young said for the same amount of people the old process would have taken about two hours. That’s because the previous process required deployers to fill their own bags as they walked down a row of bins containing the various items. Now, LRS receives notification of the required items from the unit deployment managers earlier and fills the bags before the deployers even arrive to the warehouse, explained Young. In addition to changing the process, the deployment team also changed the location to account for more people. “We used to issue the items in the mobility room, but we moved it down the hall to a bigger room in the back, and it worked out perfectly,” said Young. “That, and the baggage truck was sitting there so as soon as they’re finished with everything they can just throw it on the baggage truck.” Not only does this improve the lives of those involved in the process, but it also serves as an important benefit to the mission itself, as it works to get these service members to their deployed locations where they’re needed most, Young said. “We sat down and discussed how we could make the process faster, and we got it down now,” said Young. “We’re ready to go.”
