Cobb leaders drop in Published March 13, 2017 By Senior Airman Lauren Douglas 94th Airlift Wing DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- The 2017 Leadership Cobb class toured Dobbins Air Reserve Base to learn about the wing’s mission and see reservists in action March 8, 2017.Leadership Cobb is a diverse group of local professionals selected annually for leadership development and professional growth. Participants gain awareness of current issues, community resources and the needs of the community.“Once a year, a day is dedicated to the support of the military,” said Joe Gaskin, LC planning committee member. “It has been a fantastic opportunity.”From a planning standpoint, we try to give the class an appreciation for what the military does for us, said Gaskin. We want them to understand the military is made up of real people with real lives and problems. They aren’t just militant machines.During the tour, the leadership group received a mission briefing from Brig. Gen. Steven Parker, 94th Airlift Wing commander. He gave a brief history of the Air Force, an overview of the AF core competencies and a look at the more recent missions here at Dobbins.“He [Gen. Parker] arranged perfect weather for today,” joked Gaskin. It was a sunny 68 degrees with a light breeze on the flight line.After the briefing, the leaders were taken to the flight line to tour a C-130H3 Hercules aircraft, where they spoke to crewmembers and toured the flight deck.“These tours keep the community involved in military life,” said Tech. Sgt. Wes Brown, 700th Airlift Squadron loadmaster and one of the hosts during the aircraft tour. “We get to give the people in Cobb an idea of what reservists do in our day-to-day operations.”The LC class was taken to an observation deck to view a local training mission with two air drops. The group witnessed a cargo drop and personnel drop of eight Army National Guard soldiers. Members were then taken to the 94th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron where they toured of the simulator building and a C-130 simulator designed to train Aeromedical Evacuation crews preparing them for real-world emergency care.At the end of the tour day, the leaders applauded all of their military hosts to show their appreciation for the day they had at Dobbins.
