NEW YORK -- Maj. Christina Hopper, an Air Force Reserve F-16 pilot from Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma, will be the featured guest on NBC's daytime show "Harry," starring Harry Connick Jr., Jan. 16 to coincide with Martin Luther King Day.
Hopper will be featured during the show's “Leading Ladies" segment highlighting her role as an African-American, Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran and female fighter pilot.
The major was filmed for her segment Jan. 10, but after reviewing the daily rough cut of the show, the executive producers invited her back the next day for a longer segment, scrapping the initial, shorter interview.
Hopper adjusted her plans and returned to the studio the following day and was interviewed about her life journey in the Air Force. The discussion focused on a variety of topics, including why she joined the Air Force; breaking barriers as an African-American female fighter pilot; overcoming obstacles and taking advantage of opportunities throughout her time in the Air Force; inspiration and advice for young women either currently working or thinking about a career in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields; and work/life balance for today's military families.
