Former 94th SFS commander promoted to Colonel Published Jan. 8, 2017 By James Branch 94th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga -- “Attention to order, the Department of the Air Force, Headquarters Air Force Reserve, order ROBA0062, by order of the Secretary of the Air Force and the President of the United States, Lt. Col. Timothy H. Martz is promoted to the rank of Colonel,” announced Maj. Gloria Moran, 94th Security Forces Squadron commander.An audience of distinguished visitors, community leaders, past and present commanders, and military and civilian attendees cheered as his wife Heidi pinned Colonel Insignia on Martz’s shoulders Jan. 4, 2017 at Verhulst Hall, Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Georgia.Martz thanked everyone and noted that this was his first promotion ceremony of his career, after being promoted five times as an enlisted Airman and five times as a commissioned officer. He attended Basic Military Training in 1986.Col. Marty Hughes, 94th Mission Support Group commander, served as presiding official, and administered the oath of office.During his remarks, he highlighted various events that took place in 1990, the year Martz received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. He praised Martz for his accomplishments as a squadron commander for eight years.“To be an effective commander, you must be adaptable and reliable, and those two words describe Colonel Martz,” said Hughes.During Martz’s tenure, the 94th SFS collectively has received over 90 outstanding member awards, the 2015 94th Mission Support Group Unit of the Year, 2014 Reserve Officers Association Outstanding Non-Flying Unit Award, 2014 94th Airlift Wing and 94th MSG Squadron of the Year Awards, and U.S. Air Force and AFRC Outstanding Reserve Component Full-Time Unit Awards in 2013 and 2010.“I would like recognize members of the 94th SFS today in front of our civic leaders,” said Martz. “They played a huge part in me being promoted to Colonel. Over 50 of them will deploy soon, and could potentially be in harm’s way. I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart.”Martz now serves as the vice commander, Air Force Reserve Command Recruiting Service, advising the AFRC commander and senior leadership on all reserve requiting matters. He oversees more than 450 military and civilian personnel at 240 locations worldwide.“Martz has served the 94th Airlift Wing with distinction,” said Hughes. “He has a great future ahead of him and great family and Airmen behind him.”
